SwissCom, Switzerland’s leading telecommunications company, needed to update their existing signage system and increase its content management and live broadcast capabilities.

Westiform and YCD Multimedia created a centrally controlled signage solution that worked with SwissCom’s original install which allowed SwissCom to switch between multi-lingual advertising and live broadcast easily.

The large scale of this project and short turnaround were two of the main challenges but Westiform and YCD Multimedia completed all the upgrades to every one of SwissCom’s 90 stores by the two month deadline.

Signage that Speaks Your Language

YCD Multimedia and Wesitform create a tri-lingual signage solution for SwissCom capable of switching to live TV broadcast at the touch of a button

We were able to dramatically improve image quality using the existing hardware, meaning that we were able to protect SwissCom’s previous investment; and secondly, we implemented our system in 90 branch stores within two months.

SwissCom is the premier telecommunications company in Switzerland, offering mobile communications, fixed networks, broadband Internet and digital TV to corporate and residential customers.  They are also one of Switzerland’s largest providers of IT services. SwissCom showcases their products and services in over 90 retail locations throughout Switzerland, each featuring their own state-of-the-art media center.

One of SwissCom’s main challenges was increasing the capability of their pre-existing digital signage media centers to be able to handle switching from pre-recorded advertising spots to live broadcast televisions seamlessly and quickly. This would allow SwissCom to immediately showcase their TV services to customers in real time. Additional challenges like the language differences in SwissCom’s diverse and multi-lingual clientele would also need to be discussed and addressed. Further complicating this project was the very quick 2 month deadline.

Westiform and YCD Multimedia were able to fully retain the existing hardware while only adding a 88.7-inch EloTouch panel to the current digital signage infrastructure. This touch panel allowed SwissCom employees to switch between the pre-recorded advertising playlists and SwissCom’s live TV easily and attractively.  Using YCD’s Cnario Digital Signage Suite the animated advertising content would continue to run seamlessly on the three adjacent screens around the touch panel.

To cater to SwissCom’s diverse customer base all of the content is provided in three languages and kept on a server in the central office. The content players located at each of SwissCom’s locations  used Cnario to download, deliver and fully synchronize the content  on the screens and touch panel. Westiform monitors the displays which can be activated centrally, while also providing hardware and software support. All data is secured in a 1024 encrypted virtual private network and hosted in an external processing center.

Westiform and YCD Multimedia vastly improved the image quality of the existing hardware, and successfully met all of the language, content and live broadcast requirements while creating a simply stunning digital signage display. In addition, all of the updates to the pre-existing hardware, the purchasing and installation of each of the EloTouch Panels were completed in over 90 locations all over Switzerland in just two months in accordance with the project requirements.

Marcel Thomas, a project manager for Westiform describes the overall project results saying, “We were able to dramatically improve image quality using the existing hardware, meaning that we were able to protect SwissCom’s previous investment; and secondly, we implemented our system in 90 branch stores within two months.” The crystal clear images and the seamless transitions from playlist to broadcast continue to wow customers visiting the stores. The finally results from this project most definitely upholds SwissCom’s absolutely stellar reputation as a telecommunications leader while enhancing the overall shopping experience for their customers.
